The role

The Creative Director’s role is to direct and supervise projects from concept to final delivery, incorporating Motion Graphics, CGI, live-action, photographic and compositing methodologies. Working directly with clients to firstly engage, build the creative vision then guide the production to that agreed goal, the Creative Director is ultimately responsible for the quality of the final creative work. Duties will also include working on portfolio pieces that add strategic value to our brand and help win future business.


The main aspects of this role are:

  • Pitches Process. Engaging with the clients on calls/emails/meetings to interpret the requirements and expectations to then develop proposed creative (and potentially technical) approaches that align with the defined brief.
  • Working individually or bringing together the right team. You will also need to evidence a good understanding of the production process within every pitch. Working closely with E.P’s and Head of Production on pipeline, financial planning and finding creative solutions to deliver within budget.
  • Live Productions. Taking the overarching responsibility of leading the project from ‘Creative Production process’. Visualising the next steps in the production chain is key to ensuring concerns are dealt with efficiently and effectively at an early stage. Foreseeing all problems and planning around potential situations.
  • Working with the E.P and Producer to plan out the complete production pipeline, validate the team of artists (help find freelancers), scheduling, TD on shoot, where necessary. At all times, you be expected to develop a good relationship with client, from pitching through to production, leading with strong communications.
  • Building the Studio. Working with managing director and the E.P.’s you’ll play a big role in strategic planning of staffing the company.
  • Finding highly skilled artists with right attitude, across all sections of the business. We will also need to improve the freelance & perm-a-lance lists. Lining up good talent to call on as projects confirm.  As you bring designers into the studio, you will line manage them to oversee their creative output and to help grow their careers.
  • Portfolio Management. Managing and improving the existing company portfolio. Working with sales team to, where possible, help the company get wider exposure and ultimately get onto more pitches. TJ produce regular pitch-tests to evidence skills with new scripts, techniques and ideas – Involvement in continuing and developing this work will be essential.
  • Growing the Taylor James brand, NYC will be in close communication with London. As the company becomes more and more global, we will share staff, pipeline, kit and established work practices with other offices.


Additional Requirements

Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat (plus an understanding of Illustrator)

Understanding of 3DStudio Max v8+, Maya and compositing software (After Effects / Fusion / Combustion)

Basic understanding of sound engineering (Qbase, reason)

Good understanding of studio and location based photography capture requirements and setups

Good understanding of CGI and post-production production processes for print and animation

Readiness to gain knowledge of live action and green screening, including basic kit setups
