UNITED AIRLINES
Flying superheroes around takes a team of superheroes. United Airlines, proud airline of Team USA, wanted to portray members of the Olympic team as superheroes alongside their own superheroes: the people who fly, maintain, serve on and otherwise look after their fleet of jets. McGarry Bowen commissioned still images of both the athletes and their staff as superheroes.
The illustrations were projected onto generic 3D characters. We then used the illustrations as texture maps on those 3D character models. Once we had the 3D bodies skinned, we put them together in different tableaux vivant but with motion to bring these characters to life. We rotated the characters about 10-15 degrees to get subtle motion. As we rotated the characters we discovered the models needed to be adjusted to compensate for distortion.
The campaign will run across America on screens in airports, railway stations, subway station and outdoor media.
