BUSINESS MOBILITY

VM Ware

 

A campaign created to showcase the benefits of using VMware technologies across a range of industry sectors. Working in collaboration with Grok, we designed and produced 5 key visuals in complete CGI, each with multiple scenarios to highlight specific IT services and their virtualization infrastructure. The final interactive campaign was launched at multiple industry events and across online and digital media.

 
 

PRE PRODUCTION | CONCEPT

 

As with many projects, the process starts with a thorough research of the brand and product to understand each of VMware technologies and services and how mobile access is specifically used within each industry sector (Healthcare, Education, Government, Financial Services and Retail). We could then start to outline each of the scenarios that would best showcase how industry professionals interacted with VMware technology and ensure that the information accessed via each touch point, was relevant to each characters situation and role. 

From establishing the number of showcase rooms needed within each design, we were then able do some initial technical tests to establish the required resolution to allow for the interactive zooms and set the scale of each room based the level of details the client needed to see. This technical planning allowed us to set some basic rules that our concept artist would need to adhere to when exploring the initial design sketches. The design would have to be two rooms per floor and the general foot print of each building would need to be ‘L’ shaped with a 3/4 angle, to offer the best view into each scenario without obstruction and to allow space for the remote location scenes.

Post Production | CGI

From the approved concept art the next step was to begin modeling each scene in 3D. This would begin with relatively simple chalk renders which helped to first establish camera angle and lensing, before then refining the model in much great detail and applying materials and lighting. 

We developed a bespoke interior design style for each room and established a detailed asset list for all the furnishings and props that needed to be modelled in CGI. We also had over 90 characters that had to be dressed and posed across all the scenarios. By using controlled lighting setups, bold interior colours and the use of tinted glass, it allowed us to really focus the viewers attention on the key actions. Knowing that the user would be able to zoom in and interact very closely to each scene, we packed in as much detail as possible, from the toys in the children’s bedroom, right down to the plate of crumbly cookies in the teachers staff room! 

The final result is a fun, detail rich and engaging campaign that has been a huge success for our client and something that we are exceptionally proud to be a part of. Watch the video on the right to explore each of the interactive scenarios.
